News, notes and meeting minutes from Community Policing Beat 2431 in the heart of Rogers Park, Chicago
November 27, 2013
Hi everyone -
Alderman Moore announced a reminder concerning the Winter Street Parking ban that takes effect this Sunday. I just wanted to pass it along to you all.
Overnight Parking Ban on Clark Street Starts this Sunday at 3 a.m.
I am writing to remind you that Chicago's annual "Winter Overnight Parking Ban" on Clark Street, from Howard to Devon, begins this Sunday, December 1st at 3:00 a.m. The parking ban is clearly posted and will be enforced from December 1st through April 1st from 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., regardless of snow.
The one-and-a-quarter-mile portion of Clark is part of a 107-mile network of criticial arterial streets where the parking ban is put into effect each year. The parking ban enables the City to keep vital arterial streets free of snow from curb to curb in the event of a major storm.
Cars parked in violation of the overnight ban prevent critical routes, such as Clark, from being fully plowed and salted when it snows. During a snowfall, a build-up of snow next to parked vehicles on these routes further reduces traffic flow.
Violators will face a minimum $150 towing fee, a $60 ticket and a storage fee of $20 per day. Vehicles in violation of the ban will be towed to 701 N. Sacramento.
